A scar, whether it is from a surgery, injury, burn or a skin disease, can affect your self-esteem significantly, changing how you behave to what you choose to wear. While scars can make a devastating impact on your self-confidence, they also have the power to negatively affect the course of relationships. Although concealment makeup can give you a temporary relief by shielding your scars, the scar camouflage treatment or the medical corrective tattooing, can give a permanent break to your constant worrying.
- Alopecia Areata or Hair Loss Due to Chemotherapy
Alopecia is a medical condition which affects the hair follicles where the hair growth starts, causing hair to fall out in round spots. These hairless patches can leave rather an obtruding effect on one’s overall appearance. With the help of micropigmentation these patches can be effectively concealed by producing a shaved head appearance. The same treatment can be used as a solution for your extensive hair loss or balding issues as well as hair loss due to chemotherapy treatments, for covering up receding hairlines and for shielding the spaces between hair transplants.
Due to chemotherapy one may also lose hair on eyebrows, which can be cleverly covered up by using micropigmentation to sketch natural looking eyebrows.
Vitiligo is a skin disease that causes white patches to appear on one’s skin due to the loss of cells (known as melanocytes) that produce pigments. These depigmentation patches can appear anywhere on the skin including the lips. Through the application of pigments (matching one’s skin color), the scar camouflage treatment helps to effectively cover up these white blotches. However the progression of the disease should be stable at least for over two years if you are to be an ideal candidate for this treatment, because while the marks can be touched up, if the disease constantly spreads, the effects of the treatment would prove to be futile.
- Cleft Lip
Cleft lips occur when there are not enough tissues in the lips to form a full lip; this condition usually occurs while a baby is still developing inside a mother’s womb. Here pigments which match the natural color of your lips will be applied to camouflage the separation or split on your lip.
- Breast surgery
Often due to mastectomies or breast reconstruction surgeries, the appearance of the nipple and the areola would be disfigured. Using micropigmentation, the shape and the color of areola and nipple can be restored in the most natural way possible.
- Burn scars
This treatment can effectively eliminate the shiny appearance of healed burnt scars, by introducing pigments on to the dermal layer of the skin to blend in with the unaffected area. It should be noted that, severe burnt scars will not be effectively hidden by this micropigmentation treatment. Also it is imperative that the burn scar is healed over at least twelve months.
While the scar camouflage treatment can adequately conceal most types of scars, it cannot be performed on the following types of scars.
- Unhealed scars – If your scar is not healed properly and is pink, you cannot be subjected to this procedure.
- Scars with dark edges – Due to hyper-pigmentation conditions such dark edges may occur, and this treatment may aggravate the situation.
- Scars that are not smooth – Some severe wounds result in irregular healing scars that are not smooth or flat. This treatment will not successfully work on hiding these types of scars.
- Spider veins, age spots, progressive vitiligo, freckles and dark circles under eyes cannot be shielded by this camouflage treatment.
The scar camouflage treatment can efficiently boost your self-confidence, and unlike temporary concealment make-up, the effects of this treatment will not fade for a longer period of time. Since it is a non-invasive procedure which does not include incisions, there will be little to no threat of infection. Any discomfort that may occur during the treatment will be minimized by the anesthetics given to you in the beginning. Moreover a patch test will be conducted before the procedure to determine if the client would show any adverse allergic reactions during the process.
