The wicked nature of breast cancer has affected the feminine identity and female sexuality of many a women all around the world. The scars left by the surgeries undergone remain as dismal reminders of the harrowing times experienced.
While there are breast reconstruction surgeries that would restore the breast after a mastectomy, they are not capable of replacing the natural beauty of the breast in its entirety. Areola tattooing, which is a non-invasive procedure, is now being used side by side with breast reconstruction surgery to provide better and enhanced results (nipples and areolas that have been tattooed with a 3D effect) for women who have survived breast cancer.
This procedure can be used to tattoo the nipple in a way that would give a 3D effect after the breast has been reconstructed. It can also be used to add color to a nipple which has been reconstructed using tissues or to camouflage a scar caused by a surgery on the nipple or the areola. Areola tattooing is also effective in restoring color and shape to faded and irregular areolas caused by medical conditions such as vitiligo.
The procedure at Care Contour
Our goal is to help women who have survived breast cancer to regain their sense of femininity and re-embrace their sexuality with confidence. We aim to improve their perception of their self-image by offering our optimal services to create realistic outcomes.
Our areola tattooing treatment starts with a patch test which would determine if you are allergic to any of the products we use for the procedure. If you show positive results we will proceed on by helping you make a decision about the shade, the shape and the size for your new nipple and areola.
After selecting the color of the pigments, either from the shade matching that of your natural nipple or a different color of your preference, our trained and licensed technicians will inject them on to the dermal layer of your skin to restore the appearance of the nipple or the areola.
The needle used for this treatment is comparatively smaller than a needle used for a standard tattooing procedure; moreover the pigments will not be placed deep within the skin either. This greatly reduces, if not completely eliminates, any risk of infection in the aftermath of the treatment. It may not inflict much pain, but we would offer you an anesthetic to reduce any discomfort that may occur during the course of the procedure.
What to expect after the treatment
Immediately after the treatment, especially during the first week, you may experience reddening over and around the tattooed skin site. The areola tattoo may also look a few shades darker than the shade you originally selected. However as the skin heals, the color your selected will appear.
We also recommend you to keep the treated area moist with a triple antibiotic ointment or Neosporin, at least for five days. You can apply it two or three times a day. Until the wound is healed, you can also use A&D ointment.
While it takes about three weeks to complete the healing process, the treated area will dry and peel slowly within that time period. However you may not need to refrain from any daily activity during this time. While you can shower immediately after the treatment, we strongly advise you to keep away from soaking in water, in bathtubs, hot tubs or swimming pools for at least three weeks.
The ultimate result of the areola tattooing treatment will positively amaze you, increase your confidence and help you regain your pride. It will in fact help you move on from a darker time based on upsetting experiences by removing any scars and restoring the pristine beauty of your breasts.
